A popular song is not only embraced because it is often performed, but also because it carries a certain message. Thus, the evocative power of Louis Armstrong’s "What a Wonderful World " could characterize its optimistic emotion in a precise historic context.
A lullaby expresses a simple and poetic intention to soothe a child, thus putting them to sleep.
A game of chance, such as the game which proposes a specific number of element combinations between conflicts, and two to two are symbolized by the signs made with the hands of the players (the paper, the rock, the shaft, the scissors) for the function of diverting the practical.
I chose these three subjects to convey my message in order to propose a certain number of musical representations that are destined to examine the initial intention, thus:
How does one interpret this incantation today, that the world is marvelous without sensing a form of manipulation, which could be resumed by the oxymoron of James Joyce’s Ulysses: “ Go ahead behind the music”…?
Isn’t the appeasement obtained by a lullaby due to the song’s softness, which is perhaps destined to make one forget today without hoping of tomorrow? Can the appeasement, which prepares the sleep, conduct a progressive entrance in the domain of a dream? Sleeping and dreaming can otherwise be thought of as another type of music, which lacks significance in its softness.
Whatever the game may be, simple or not, it will always have a symbolic and poetic meaning: if I say, “Follow the proposed rules: the paper covers the rock, and the scissors cut the paper before falling in the shaft,” haven’t I begun to put a dramatic form in place? Furthermore, this phenomenon of subjective distancing can be put in place in regards to an initial situation, which does not strongly refer to them.
Finally, the singers clapped their hands or used the small percussion instruments to symbolize the phenomenon of subjective distancing in these three pieces. To summarize, in my spirit, the " Handspiele " has a structural function and dramatic determinant for the development of musical speech on the vastness of these three pieces.
